CROSS-STITCH MINI MOTIFS VINTAGE BOOK

Although today we live in such a technological society I think we are still drawn to objects from the past - this could be for reasons of nostalgia or perhaps because we appreciate their design elements. Everyday objects from previous eras are often beautifully made and highly decorated. Also handmade items from the past, such as clothing, retain an individuality and a personal element that is often lost in this world of mass produced objects. So for this book I have decided to focus on ‘vintage’ and ‘retro’ style motifs that show my love of vintage fashion, vintage design and handmade crafts. The book also shows my love of colour, pattern and shading.

Included in the book are lots of lovely sewing and craft motifs, vintage style hats, clothes and shoes, beautifully decorated fans and retro style film, cinema and theatre motifs. For animal lovers there are cute little Scottie dogs, Dachshunds and a retro style Poodle. And for those of you who love to stitch floral designs I’ve included some floral garlands, beautiful old-fashioned roses, a Parisian style flower shop and a ‘shabby chic’ bicycle overflowing with flowers. The motifs can be used to decorate clothing, tea towels, cushions, aprons and little bags and purses. For something simpler you can make little greetings cards to give to your loved ones. Or frame a stitched motif to make into a sweet little picture! I have really enjoyed designing this book, so I hope you that you enjoy stitching up these motifs! Susan Bates
